Il a consacré sa carrière à la recherche et à l’en- seignement dans le domaine des mathématiques appliquées et des transports. Il est Direc- teur du GRETTIA, laboratoire de l’IFSTTAR (Institut Français des Sciences et Technologies des Transports, de l’Aménagement et des Réseaux). Ses principales contributions concernent la modélisa- tion macroscopique du trafic véhiculaire, avec notamment la mise en évidence des concepts d’offre et de demande locales du trafic et du principe d’invariance. Il est éditeur associé ou membre de comités de lecture de plusieurs grandes revues internationales et participe aux comités scientifiques de plusieurs conférences internationales.
